Restorative Services
Laser Dentistry
Laser dentistry is a proven, precise and effective way to perform many
dental procedures. The bladeless technology uses a high-energy laser
light beam and allows us to treat a very specific area of your mouth
without impacting surrounding tissues or teeth.
We are using laser dentistry in a number of treatments because it provides
patients with the following benefits:
Procedures performed on soft tissue may not require stitches;
Some laser dentistry procedures do not require anesthesia;
Laser dentistry minimizes bleeding and blood loss because the laser beam
aids in the clotting coagulation of exposed blood vessels;
Bacterial infections are minimized because the laser beam sterilizes
the treated area;
Wounds heal faster and tissues can be regenerated.
We find that laser dentistry is particularly helpful for younger or
more anxious patients. Talk to us about laser dentistry during your next
visit to see if it may be for you.
Fillings
Having a tooth filled is one of the most common dental procedures. We
provide three kinds of fillings, based on your needs:
Composite fillings are matched to the color of your natural teeth, so
many patients prefer these when fillings are needed on their more visible
teeth.
Amalgam fillings are stronger and last longer. Historically, amalgam
fillings have been used most frequently by patients. But because of their
silver color, many patients prefer to use amalgam fillings in their less
visible back teeth.
Crowns
A crown covers all surfaces of a damaged tooth. Crowns are made of two
kinds of material:
Gold crowns are the strongest and last the longest. But because of their
color, many patients prefer to use gold fillings in their less visible
back teeth.
Porcelain crowns are matched to the color of your natural teeth, and
are often used where the teeth are more visible.
Bridges
Like the name suggests, a bridge is used to replace a missing tooth by
permanently joining to stronger, adjacent teeth. Bridges are made from
a variety of materials, depending on the severity of the problem or
the visibility of the tooth area.
Implants
When your original tooth needs to be removed, an implant can provide
an artificial root replacement that resembles your natural teeth.
The procedure involves attaching a tiny titanium screw to your jawbone.
Or, if the bone is not strong enough, a bone graft can be used.
The rod then holds a new tooth surface (similar to a crown) in place
to fill in for your original tooth.
Dentures
These are prosthetic devices that can be constructed to replace missing
teeth and fit your mouth. Dentures are typically supported by surrounding
soft and hard tissues in your mouth. They can also be affixed to other
teeth or your jaw.
There are two main kinds of dentures:
Full dentures replace the teeth in your entire mouth;
Partial dentures replace the teeth in only a part of your mouth.
Inlays and Onlays
An inlay is typically a smaller application that is fitted to a cavity
and cemented into place.
An onlay is similar but may be larger, and extends to replace the biting
surface of the tooth.
These can be made of three materials: gold, porcelain or a tooth-colored
composite material. The best material for your purpose can be determined
by the degree of restoration the tooth requires, and the visibility of
the treated tooth.
